Today is day 2 of Family Mediation Week (20th – 24th January 2020), a week long campaign where we encourage conversations about mediation and raise awareness of mediation and its benefits for separating families. Today we provide a little insight into what a MIAM is and how it can be beneficial when starting your mediation journey.
What is the Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM)
MIAM stands for Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting and is the initial meeting which a mediator has with prospective parties. You each attend a separate meeting and it is an opportunity for the mediator to discuss the options which are available to you, but also it is an important part of the whole process, helping you to explain your concerns and worries with the mediator face to face and to help build a trusted relationship between you and the mediator before the joint sessions begin.
If you are working your way through a separation, then mediation may be the way forward. We have qualified mediators available to assist you and appointments available at any of our three offices, including evening appointments.
